Our helpline rated excellent! | Education Support
Coronavirus update: We continue to be here to provide mental health and wellbeing support to all education staff.

Our helpline rated excellent!

Our emotional support helpline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It offers crucial support to teachers and other educational staff who’ve reached a crisis point or feel they’re at risk of poor mental health.

Demand for our helpline service is increasing. From March 2017 to April 2018 our BACP accredited counsellors managed over 8,600 cases, representing a 35% year-on-year increase in calls from teachers.

Independent audit

In order to ensure the increasing numbers of teachers and others working in education can call us with full confidence, the service is regularly monitored by an independent audit team to ensure it meets very high and exacting standards.

In the last quarterly audit the clinical service, which is the service counsellors offer to callers, was rated at 94%. We’re delighted with this result as we’re committed, as a charity, to providing education staff with access to the highest quality and highest impact support services available.

How we help

The helpline is intended to help callers find solutions to their issues so as well as listening to callers’ concerns, whatever they may be, our counsellors are also trained to offer specially-tailored advice to each caller that is solution focused, should the caller need ongoing help.

Our counsellors are highly trained and experienced and they specialise in helping people working in education.

After the initial contact callers may be offered up to six counselling sessions in which the counsellor works with them over the phone to try find a solution together to their issue.

We’ve helped callers with many issues including:

  • building the confidence of struggling NQTs
  • workplace bullying
  • stress and anxiety due to heavy workload
  • difficulties with personal and/or professional relationships
  • money troubles
  • bereavement
  • parenting issues
  • relationship breakdown

Primary school teacher Laura Braun suffered a panic attack. A call to our helpline clarified what she wanted out of her life and career. She tells her story here:
