Headspace and Yourspace | Education Support
Coronavirus update: We continue to be here to provide mental health and wellbeing support to all education staff.

Headspace and Yourspace

Connect, reflect and develop your skills with other Headteachers

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting school, college and university closures we are currently unable to deliver our Headspace programme.

In the meantime please take care of yourselves.  If you have any questions or concerns please email servicedelivery@edsupport.org.uk or get in touch with your regional Business Delivery Manager.

Headspace and Yourspace are confidential, personal and professional development programmes to help develop your performance as headteachers, deputies and senior leaders.

Our experience tells us school leaders need the time and space to sustain their own resilience and personal and professional effectiveness, so they can meet the constant demands of the job.

Headspace and Yourspace offer a safe and confidential environment for you to explore the most effective leadership behaviours and learn from each other, using action-learning and problem-solving techniques.

"Headspace is an opportunity to step-off the treadmill and think differently. It gave me the energy and renewed vigour to step back on."
Headteacher, Suffolk

What are the benefits?

Participants tell us they have gained the following benefits through their active participation in the programme:

  • managing change more successfully
  • improved resilience and the ability to work more effectively
  • improved strategies for leadership issues
  • more confidence in managing performance
  • greater ability to prioritise and manage demands
  • renewed enthusiasm for the job
  • insight from other school environments

Many groups continue to meet after the formal programme ends.

How does it work?

Small groups of school leaders in local areas are brought together, creating a confidential space with a skilled facilitator to explore and share ideas, knowledge and experience.

The programme starts with a whole-day introductory session, which is followed by 4-5 half-days. The programme typically lasts between six and twelve months and is customised to meet the needs of school leaders within their specific local context. As part of the programme we also provide free access to our specialist team of advisors and counsellors, experts at supporting those who work in schools.

The confidential service is available 24/7 and provides support by telephone or online on a wide range of issues including:

  • emotional support and counselling
  • specialist information and work-life issues
  • financial advice and debt counselling
  • legal advice and guidance
  • management consultation to support those responsible for managing others
  • up to six sessions of face-to-face counselling

“The Headspace Programme is a hugely valuable part of my first couple of years of headship. It has offered a real support mechanism for the challenging times that I have faced and I feel more equipped to prepare for and face the critical issues in my job.”
