Teachers and all school staff are working tirelessly to keep children learning. But working in education during the pandemic has come at a huge personal cost to many.
Symptoms of poor mental health, like insomnia and tearfulness are on the rise. 84% of education staff describe themselves as stressed out.
Many professions are under pressure right now but the cost of teachers being mentally unwell at work is simply too high.
Children and young people need and deserve to have teachers who are well enough to keep showing up for them - both physically and emotionally.
That’s why we’re calling on you to sign up to the Strides Against Stress challenge by walking or running at least 30 miles (a mile a day) across the month of April – Stress Awareness Month.
Sign up today and support teachers and school staff facing a mental health crisis.
Just follow these 3 simple steps:
Raise £70 or over and we’ll send you a running vest or t-shirt.
Yes – when you sign up you can choose to create a team and invite friends and family to sign up via email. Or you can sign up as individuals and then choose to join a team. Please make sure that your team is running or walking without breaking Covid rules for your area. For example, it is fine for your whole household to sign up and run together. However, if your teammates are outside of your household, and more than one other person, then you must run separately.
No, you can choose to walk or run, or both! For example, you could choose to walk a mile a day whilst walking the dog! Or you could do a bit of both to look after your legs.
The challenge is to reach at least 30 miles in April – this means that you can choose to double the distance or even triple it if you would like to take on the ultimate challenge! Whatever distance you choose, remember to look after yourself.
You can do a mile a day, or you can choose to do larger runs or walks at the weekends to reach 30 miles – as long as the target is reached by 30th April.
Enthuse is the website we are using to organise Strides Against Stress. It has been designed specifically for charities to organise virtual fundraising events online. The website allows supporters to create fundraising pages and collect donations for the charity, meaning Education Support receive the donations in a safe way. Enthuse charges a small transaction fee per donation.
This is our very first virtual event (how exciting?!) and we are hoping it will be a successful way for us to raise vital funds for our services. We have small up-front costs that need covering. This £5 will go some way to covering those, and the t-shirt or running vest that we will send you when you raise £70 or more. Thank you for your understanding!
Your fantastic fundraising efforts will be used to power our services for teachers and other education staff, including our 24/7 counselling helpline. Thank you so much for supporting teachers and school staff facing a mental health crisis.
We are sending running vests and t-shirts to super supporters who raise £70 or more of their £100 fundraising target. If you have reached £70 and have been waiting longer than 2 weeks, please get in touch with your friendly fundraising team: fundraising@edsupport.org.uk
Make sure you fill in your fundraising page fully, and upload a profile photo. That way your friends and family can find your page easily and see your motivations for taking part. A simple and easy way to get donations is by sharing your fundraising page on your Facebook page, Twitter account or paste a link in your Instagram bio. We also have a Facebook cover image and profile picture that you can download here, if you upload these to Facebook then friends and family will be reminded that you are taking part in the challenge.
