Julie's story | Education Support
Coronavirus update: We continue to be here to provide mental health and wellbeing support to all education staff.

Julie's story

Our grants team continues to receive a high number of applications from staff who desperately need help paying for food and bills during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Here is Julie's story:

Single parent Julie is a teaching assistant in a primary school. She loves her job and the ‘lightbulb moments’ when teaching children.

When Julie’s two children went to university all financial help stopped, making it harder for her to make ends meet. When the pandemic hit, her school asked her to self-isolate for three months due to underlying health issues. Her daughter lost her part-time jobs and Julie has had to help her cover her rent too.

So when Julie’s washing machine broke down, she could not afford to replace it. We were able to provide a grant for a new washing machine and for food and other essentials. She said:

"My wages usually just about cover the bills but now it’s harder. I’ve thought I should be able to provide for my kids but there have been times that I’ve had to swallow my pride and use the food bank at school too. It isn’t easy.

"My daughter has always had two or three jobs to get herself through university but now, because of coronavirus, she hasn’t been able to work, has lost the jobs she had and it’s very hard for her to get more work.

"I would have been lost without finding Education Support. Especially now. I don’t know how I would have managed. I couldn’t have afforded to go to the launderette so it’s made a huge difference. I was in tears when I found out that you could help me and that someone cared."

Can you help?

We were able to give Julie financial support when she needed us most only due to the generosity of our supporters.

Are you able to give a gift at this difficult time to help education staff like Julie? If you can please donate online. Thank you so much
