Grants for teachers and education staff - Katie's story

Katie's story

Our grants team continues to receive a high volume of applications from supply teachers and term-time only staff who desperately need help to pay for food, rent and other essentials:

Here is Katie's story:

Teacher Katie* lives with her partner, a student nurse, in Newport, South Wales. She contacted us out of desperation as to how they would pay the bills.

“I’m a primary school teacher and have been working as a supply teacher on a daily basis since last September.  I was told just a day before schools closed on March 20th that my last paid day of employment would be the next day.

“With just a day’s notice our first thought was how are we going to pay our rent and our bills? We didn’t know what to do. My partner secured a job as a delivery driver for Domino’s pizza which helps but wasn’t enough.

“The grant from Education Support has taken such a load off and has taken away some of the pressure and uncertainty.”

Katie is now waiting to hear what she may be entitled to through the furlough scheme.

Can you help?

We were able to give Katie and her partner £700 for food and rent when they needed us most only due to the generosity of our supporters.

Are you able to give a gift at this difficult time to help teachers like Katie? If you can please donate online. Thank you so much.
