Payroll Giving

Payroll giving (or Give As You Earn) is a scheme that enables workers to donate to charity directly from their salary.

Great for donors

With payroll giving you can donate more at a smaller cost to you. Your donation is deducted before your tax is calculated; you pay some of the donation amount, and then the rest is taken from the tax which would have gone to HMRC.

For example, if you’re a 20% taxpayer who donates £10 a month:

  • You only pay £8
  • £2 is paid from tax
  • We receive £10

Great for Education Support

Payroll gifts are donated to us every month. Regular gifts are the foundation of our income because they provide flexibility and allow us to plan ahead. Sadly, our regular giving income is also declining and will impact our ability to deliver free services to education staff in the future.

How to get started

Employers (e.g. a local authority, academy, university) need to sign up to a payroll giving provider, then they can offer the service to staff.

If you’re an employee
  1. Ask the person who is responsible for payroll if your place of work is signed up to a payroll giving scheme - this could sit with HR or business managers
  2. Fill out their short payroll form – no bank details needed!
  3. Start giving to Education Support in a tax efficient way!
  4. Please note Education Support may not receive your contact details to thank you and update you on our work. We recommend singing up to our newsletter here

If your employer doesn’t offer payroll giving, it would be absolutely wonderful if you could encourage them to do so – you can simply share this webpage!

If you’re an employer

Setting up payroll giving is quick, easy and demonstrates your organisation’s commitment to social responsibility to your staff.

  1. Your payroll manager can register your workplace with CAF here: https://www.cafonline.org/corporate-giving/effective-ways-to-give/give-as-you-earn
  2. When you’re set up, let staff know about the scheme and pass on the registration forms from CAF
  3. Get in touch with fundraising@educationsupport.org.uk to let us know you’ve joined or get some help appealing to staff
