I've always enjoyed working with children. I initially started my career in the NHS, where I quickly built a rapport with young patients. That experience helped me realise I wanted to take my degree further and complete a PGCE. Teaching is a role that keeps you on your toes and keeps you feeling young!
I first heard about the Wellbeing Advisory Service through an email from our local authority. From the start, the advisor provided an impressive level of support, offering practical strategies and ideas that were both insightful and easy to implement. Advice she gave me was helpful in developing our School Development Plan and brought a strong focus not just on pupils’ mental health, but also on staff wellbeing - something as education staff we can often overlook.
Her understanding of the pressures teachers face was clear and her empathy for staff at all levels really stood out.
She provided a wide range of tips, resources, and professional development signposts that have been incredibly useful. We were provided with a wealth of materials, including practical tools to support staff through difficult moments.
Overall, the support from the Wellbeing Advisory Service is proving invaluable. It’s helping create a more balanced and supportive environment for both staff and students alike.
I would certainly recommend other school leaders in Wales sign up to the Wellbeing Advisory Service, which is funded by Welsh government, at no cost to your school.
