BBC Teach - supporting NQTs

Confessions of a newbie

2nd July 2020

“The support makes or breaks an NQT.”

Are you a newly qualified teacher about to embark on your first teaching job? Or a teacher returning to the classroom after some years away? If so, this film from BBC Teach offers support and tips for that baptism of fire. This is latest in a series of films we have been working on with BBC Teach to highlight the experiences of teachers in the classroom.

Experienced teachers talk about what it’s like to face a classroom of students for the first time, the importance of finding your own behaviour management style, the invaluable lessons from the mistakes they made in that first year, and how they got through those moments of self-doubt when they felt like teaching might not be for them.

Here’s a taster of the new film. To watch the full version go to the Teacher Support section of the BBC Teach website.

This new film, part of the BBC Teach support resources, follows on from the recent confessions film where teachers share their experiences of coping with high workloads and a culture of presenteeism in education
