Change is often described as the only constant. This is certainly true in our working environment. Sometimes, change brings sadness, sometimes joy. It almost always makes people feel uncomfortable and people react and cope in different ways.
During change, there is a need for positivity and transparency, a move away from blame and a move towards positive intention. It can be lonely to be a manager in this scenario, and we can feel lost. It can be difficult to move to a new normal and rebuild a team that has been affected by profound change that goes beyond surviving to thriving to transitioning with appropriate support.
During this masterclass, for school managers and leaders working in schools in Wales, we will look at a number of theories/pragmatic models including the redundancy cycle of grief, the change curve, as well as my ELEVATE model, which will be used to support the course.
ELEVATE Model
Throughout the course you will be guided through my ELEVATE model, which is an acronym for the following elements of compassionate leadership:
- Empathise
- Listen
- Engage
- Visible
- Appreciation
- Trust
- Embed
